The Haxan Cloak – Excavation

Carrying on from yesterday’s Flaming Lips premiere, the week has maintained its high level of musical excitement and excellence with a preview of The Haxan Cloak’s new LP, ‘Excavation’. We were huge fans of the bleak, subterranean visions cast into sombre light by 2011’s self-titled album – most notably the incredible string work and bold use of organic sound recordings – and his newest release hasn’t failed to live up to expectations. Seeping from the speakers like an accursed video nasty’s plague-bearing missive, you can imagine scores of Midwestern teenagers passing around an unlabelled cassette of the album and one by one falling prey to the occult omens that lurk within its thrumming drones and thumping drums. Such evocations of fear and tense, kinetic energy are surely crying out for a horror film soundtrack collaboration – and when it does we’ll be first in the queue.

The album is available to stream in its entirety here.
