The Flaming Lips – The Terror

‘The Terror’, the new album by The Flaming Lips, was released today and, unsurprisingly, is a cracker. Maintaining the same hazy, Ummagumma-era Pink Floyd, psychedelic mood as 2009’s richly rewarding ‘Embryonic’, but pulling back on the full-on freak-out and instead foregrounding a bittersweet, melancholic tenderness, it’s a vastly varied, meandering album of energy, beauty and creative prowess – and a sure contender for a lot of best of the year lists.
