No, it’s not a fortuitous pocket text, it’s the musical moniker and first album title of Texan electronic dreamweaver Celia Hollander. Much as her nomenclature blends the supernatural of the witching hour with the pop of the dollar sign, 3:33’s music is a meandering collage of styles and moods, forming a body of work laden with references newly melded into a beguiling and mysterious whole. Flitting from tongue-in-cheek synth-pop with occasional elements of modern RnB, to sample-based electronica and through to breathy, celestial drones, it shifts and alludes constantly, never settling, always moving. It’s clever, effective and really quite special.
