Seem to be on a bit of a terror trip today. Maybe it’s the build-up to Halloween. Or maybe it’s just chance chucking two of the scariest releases around into my lap at about the same time. Either way it’s something to be happy about. Or scared. Or both. As incompatible as such emotions may seem.
There’s also something of an extension of the earlier subterranean theme, as we delve into the dark, forbidding recesses of a violent subconscious with Hive Mind’s Elemental Disgrace. Growling bass that’s channelled through a miasmatic and viscous sonic liquid and accompanied by an invasive, piercing analogue cicada-screech builds and combines to a dramatically claustrophobic cavern of engulfing feedback. It’s more akin to the doom-laden drone-metal of Sunn O))) than the previously synth-orientated Spectrum Spools offerings and shows the label growing and developing in ever more interesting ways. We can’t wait for more.
