Dam Mantle – We EP

We’ve been big fans of Dam Mantle ever since we first heard his Grey EP and witnessed his spellbinding performance at last year’s Radfest. From this point onwards he’s grown substantially, in both ability and popularity, shrugging off any bedroom producer trappings and asserting himself at the head of the game. His place in the canon of standout producers in the current diaspora of British electronic music (that mouthful was as a means of getting around uttering the term ‘post-dubstep’ – shudder) has been even more firmly cemented by the forthcoming We EP, released on July 25th by GetMe!

It’s actually more of an LP than an EP, with the four tracks stretching out to 30 minutes, and the scope is equally as dilated. Styles and moods cut and change from minutes to minute, his beats are restless in their rhythmic exploration and melodies, samples and effects create both accompanying soundscapes and rhythms of their own. It’s an intelligent, mature and intricate work that manages to also be infectiously danceable – exactly what we look for in our electronic sounds. Jump on this now.
