Steve Reich – Reverberations – Barbican

In a couple of weeks the Barbican are holding a weekend-long marathon of thrilling events influenced by the pioneering vision of Steve Reich. These include performances from a spectacular line-up of artists, including Owen Pallett (who will be playing Heartland in full orchestral arrangement), Hauschka, Max Richter, Clogs, the Kronos Quartet and even the man himself.

In a neat piece of serendipity, we just noticed that Ubuweb have posted rare footage of a two-hour-long performance of three key Reich pieces by the Ensemble Modern in Tokyo. So, in a bid to raise excitement and awareness for the upcoming events, or to just provide you with a couple of hours of mesmerizingly engrossing, rhythmic serial brilliance, here it is for your viewing and/or listening pleasure.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Image is a long exposure of the tube at rush hour, by Martin Newth, about to show at George Jørgen.
