Distance Recordings have released a plethora of gorgeously delicate and subtly powerful ambient-noise records over the last few years. A fair few of these have remained firmly at the heart of our playlists since first hearing yet have strangely not broken out into the wider realms, unlike the artists on Type, Digitalis or Editions Mego. Whether this is due to bad luck, a lack of perceived sense of worth (due to the free downloads of all releases offered on the site) or some other inexplicable reason we can’t really be sure, but either way we would like to hold them up as unheralded beacons of brilliance and urge you to explore.
To get a feel for the label check out the sampler below. If you like it please purchase to help support the Japanese Red Cross Society (all proceeds go there). Then, after your philanthropy, head over to the site and download all their past releases for free. Highly recommended.
