Blondes – Re-synthesist

Blondes are playing at XOYO tomorrow night. Which is exciting. What’s also exciting is their reworking of the title track from Harald Grosskopf’s seminal 1980 album, Synthesist. The album is being re-released by RVNG INTL alongside a remix LP featuring, amongst others, Oneohtrix Point Never, ARP as well as Blondes on Feb 15th. It looks set to revitalise an LP which wears its 30 years incredibly well.

The Brooklyn proto-techno pair are in fine form for the remix, taking the blissful, arpeggiating synths of the original and coating it in a squalling, industrial haze. Much of the original’s innocence is lost beneath the thudding beat that slowly envelops the track as it progresses, intensifying beautifully before drifting back to the simplicity of its beginnings. Check out both remix and original below.
