Major double bus effect going on here. As soon as I bemoan the lack of bands coming out of interesting places and the homogenising effects this can have on sound, up pops not just one (the previously featured Föllakzoid) but two sonically deft, geographically unique artists. This time we’d like to give a heads up for the new track by Bradford lad Hourglass Sea, whose bizarre concoctions beg, borrow and steal from as diverse genres as hip-hop, speed metal and 8 bit (that’s right, the sounds of Mario coins pinging into the air and the original Double Dragon theme tune are both present). There’s finger-tapped Venice Beach guitars, Casio keyboard panpipes and swooning electro drones jumping all over the place. Utter madness, and it’s a lorra lorra fun.
Here’s his most recent outing, the brilliant Sex Parade (also available to download).
Have a gander at more of his tracks here.
Image is by sci-fi installationists Kahn & Selesnick, whose work I think would make a neat cover for this guy’s album. You can see more of their weird and wonderful work here.
