Tropics – Soft Vision

I’m not really sure what the deal with all this tropical stuff is recently. Why everyone feels they need to include some root of the word in the name of the band or as one of their style descriptions on their myspace page. There’s not really any continuity, as it seemingly covers anything vaguely influenced by West African or West Indian music, any band that creates artwork with multicoloured geometric shapes or anyone who makes music that has the slightest notion of warmth. Either way, ‘tropical’ as a musical concept is very much difficult to grasp.

Regardless of that though, here’s the video for ‘Soft Vision’, by the possibly un-aptly named Tropics. It’s a lovely song, full of warm, fuzzy drones, bouncing, glittering effects and a buttery smooth, end of the night rhythm that makes me very happy. And there are lots and lots of pretty girls in the video. Yay!
