Raleigh Moncrief – Watered Lawn

20 Oct

Any Why? fans should prick up their ears at news that Anticon‘s Raleigh Moncrief will be releasing a new album next week. Come to think of it, non-Why? fans should probably do so as well, because it’s shaping up to be a good ‘un. After co-producing Dirty Projector’s fantastic Bitte Orca, a stint playing in Marnie Stern’s band and a couple of cheeky collaborations with the awesome Zach Hill, he’s finally committed himself to a full-length solo album. Replete with laconic, drawling rhymes, glitzy, disintegrating sounds and chattering percussion formed of field recordings and budget drum kits, the whole thing has been balled up into a big balloon of spangly wool and tossed around by dolphins on holiday. Basically it’s bloody lovely.

Peep a teaser for the album here, along with a video made by Mr Moncrief himself. And listen to a few more of the new tracks below.

Zach Hill – The Primitives Talk

14 Dec

We’ve been a bit busy of late with one thing or another. It seems most online publications slow around this time, attempting to put together various summations of the year’s happenings. We’re on our way to providing you with our take on what’s made this year a good one for music and film, but in the meantime have a listen to a track off mutant-limbed drummer, Zach Hill’s, latest album. It’s ace.

Shredder

23 Jul

Marnie Stern’s back! Her eponymous third record will, she promises, have slightly more space than its predecessor- 2009′s breathlessly chaotic, This is it… The good news is that Zach Hill is still on board, so there probably won’t be that much room to breathe. Either way, the album opener’s called, ‘For Ash’, and it sounds like she’s recorded the vocals whilst jumping up and down in the middle of a sweaty gig. Which is a good thing, obviously.

Marnie Stern is out October 5th.
