Hauschka & Hildur Guðnadóttir – Pan Tone

22 Sep

We heard about this collaboration between two of our favourite experimental acoustic artists last week and posted a single track from this album. black6, in anticipation of the full release. Little did we know that the whole caboodle had already been posted on Soundcloud by the good people at Sonic Pieces, a small but beautiful German label dedicated to releasing works by some really great artists – including Nils Frahm, Machinefabriek and Ryan Teague. So without further ado here’s the full thing for your listening pleasure.

If you like what you hear make sure you nip over to Sonic Pieces to pick up a copy of the lovingly hand-crafted CD and browse the rest of their collection.

Roll The Dice – In Dust

19 Sep

The new album from Swedish duo Roll the Dice is really quite stunning; an epic journey through a vast industrial dystopia, created purely with analogue equipment that seems analogous to the beating heart of the world it describes. It’s bold, stark and, although purely instrumental, forms a rich narrative arc that conjures a vivid, emotive world replete with rattling chains, churning gears, dripping oil and the rhythmic thud of an eager yet desolate enterprise. Unsurprisingly, one of the two composers scores music for film and television, and the strong vein of storytelling that the album conveys seems well suited to accompanying something like Metropolis, Blade Runner or 1984. Fingers crossed a collaboration will be imminent: we’d really love to see that film.

To quell our impatience for that project, the good people at God Don’t Like It have thankfully scheduled them in to play at Cafe OTO (the only place we ever seem to bloody talk about!) tomorrow, the 20th of September. Should be a pretty great night.

To get you in the mood, here’s their awesome album – available to stream in full.

Zorch

Struggling quite what to say about these guys. I’d like to say that they’re kind of somewhere between Dan Deacon, Animal Collective and Lightning Bolt, but I think maybe a better way of putting it is just to say that they are fucking awesome. Somehow their 4 track demo, released back in 2009, totally failed to register but thankfully they’ve just uploaded two new tracks to Soundcloud that have not only caught our attention but have absolutely blown us away. However, while their recorded material may be good, we’re pretty sure that these guys put on incredible live shows, so we’re keeping eyes, ears, mouths and noses peeled for a UK tour announcement. You will be informed.

If you like what you see nip over to their website to check out even more material.

New Fly Lo

14 Jun

Despite claiming he’s not a fan of the site, Flying Lotus has just put up a whole load of new tracks onto Soundcloud. Where his feelings of antipathy towards such a brilliant platform for finding new music come from he doesn’t say, but far be it from me to argue with Mr. Ellison, especially when he’s decided to deign us with some new material. Below you can find a few of the cuts he’s put up, including a spine-tingly collab with Bjork and a suitably springy remix of Mr. Oizo’s, Rubber.
