If anyone’s around and about in town tonight they should almost definitely try and head over to the Shacklewell Arms to catch Pure X and Sleep ∞ Over as it should be a very, very good gig indeed. For those that need persuading or otherwise informing, here are a few reasons why. Hopefully see you there.

So yeah, Walls were pretty shit hot at the Shacklewell Arms last night. The dark , dingy backroom, flooded with kaleidoscopic neons and packed with sweaty, pulsating bodies, was the perfect location for the set – an engulfing wall of drones, synths and effects, lifted by ethereal vocals and simple guitar chords and forced home with the swallowed thuds of deep house beats. If the quality of the set and the crowd’s subsequent reaction (especially from whom we can only presume was one of the duo’s mums, having the best night of her life right in front of the stage) is anything to go by, they should be set for something big; the next Caribou or Mount Kimbie, perhaps. And we wish them all the best for it.

So yeah, if you mix neo-noir with retro-futurism the result means you really, really struggle to figure out what decade it is; but hey, apparently that’s cool. But then again, so’s being a dickhead. Go figure.
Com Truise is playing at the Shacklewell Arms in Dalston (where else?) on the 11th of November. Should be pretty fun.

Check out this sweet little vid of Walls’ recent release ‘Sunporch’, out now on Kompakt. The live projected visuals have been re-worked and manipulated to create a psychedelic overlay to the gig, nicely echoing the transcendentally heightened deep italo of the track. Catch them at venue du jour, the Shacklewell Arms, on the 27th of this month – for free! Bargain.
